    Nansen scholarship deadline extended

    Nansen Visiting Professorship in Arctic Studies extended application deadline to the 15th July.

    The University of Akureyri in Iceland is now seeking candidates for the 2nd appointment for the Nansen Visiting Professorship in Arctic Studies.

    The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Iceland and Norway signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Akureyri in September 2011 for the purpose of strengthening cooperation between Iceland and Norway in the field of Arctic scientific research, including the establishment of a Nansen Professorship in Arctic studies at the University of Akureyri, named after the Norwegian polar scientist Fridtjof Nansen.

    The post of visiting professorship in Arctic studies at the University of Akureyri is available for application. It is awarded for a twelve months period to a leading scientist – each year to candidates from different fields of studies – working with issues that bear on legal, economic, social and natural circumstances in the Arctic.

    AES abstract deadline extended

    Arctic Energy Summit 2013

    The deadline to submit an abstract for the 2013 Arctic Energy Summit has been extended to April 30th.

    Submissions can include proposals for papers, workshops, and panels.

    The 2013 Arctic Energy Summit is a multi-disciplinary event that will bring several hundred industry officials, scientists, academics, policy makers, energy professionals, and community leaders together to collaborate and share leading approaches on Arctic energy issues.

    The 2013 Arctic Energy Summit will address energy extraction, production, and transmission in the Arctic as it relates to the theme of “Richness, Resilience & Responsibility: The Arctic as a Lasting Frontier.”

    INTER-ACT

    The call for INTERACT Transnational Access has been extended until 7th of September. The exciting venue offers the opportunity to visit research sites and gain access to information and equipment on site.

    The call covers the winter season from October 2011 to April 2012 (with some variation on different sites), and summer season May to September 2012 for stations located in Russian Federation.

    This project has a main objective to build capacity for identifying, understanding, predicting and responding to diverse environmental changes throughout the wide environmental and land-use envelopes of the Arctic.

    Examples of potential research fields include animal sciences and botany, climate change research and environmental monitoring, ecology, ecosystems and biodiversity, contaminants, geography, geology and related fields, glaciology , limnology, paleolimnology and hydrology and social sciences and humanities.
