    APECS Nordic Webinars start tomorrow!

    The APECS Norden Project “Bridging Early Career Researchers and Indigenous Peoples in Nordic Countries” will feature a series of 6 webinars.

    The webinar series will identify current research challenges from the perspective of ECRs and Indigenous peoples and will aim to define potential solutions to overcome these existing challenges to communication and other research issues.

    The topics of the 6 webinars will be posted here once the schedule and program has been finalized. Speakers will include leading experts, Early Career Researchers, Indigenous youth and Indigenous researchers from Nordic regions as well as others. Tentative subjects include the following:

    • History, culture and overview of Nordic Indigenous peoples
    • Indigenous peoples’ perspectives on climate change issues, and related scientific and research activities
    • Developing confidence in researching at the local level
    • Improving communication and Incorporating Traditional Knowledge and local experts into research projects
    • Strategies to engage youth indigenous peoples in education and outreach
    • Strategies to create important sustainable research with support from local indigenous people.

    Webinars will be held weekly in October & November 2013. The schedule including dates, times, registration information and webinar topics will be posted here soon.

  • Nordic days in Murmansk start today!

    This year´s event with its extensive program will present the modern cultural and daily life in the Nordic countries. The festival will include exhibitions, concerts and short movies presentations. The knowledge exchange will be possible through organized workshops, lectures and discussions. The festival starts today and will last until 26th of April.

    The initiative is jointly organized by the Consulate General of Norway in Murmansk, Murmansk Department of the Finnish Consulate General in St. Petersburg, Consulate General of Sweden in St. Petersburg, the Information Office of the Nordic Council of Ministers in St. Petersburg and the Danish cultural institute in St. Petersburg

    This year´s program includes exhibitions that deal with contemporary issues in the North. The Nordic Council of Ministers will present two events within the frames of their “Knowledge Building and Networking Program for the North – West Russia”.

    Murmansk, being the largest city in the Arctic, located in the north – west Russia, offers many attractions for its visitors such as Northern Navy Museum, Regional History Museum, Shipping History Museum and Arctic Research Institute Exposition. Although Murmansk is a large complex, most sites of interest to visitors are within a fairly compact area in the city center.

    Its international airport provides with daily connections to Tromso, Kirkenes in Norway and Helsinki in Finland. Domestic flights are available on the scheduled basis from Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

    The Nordic Council of Ministers Arctic Cooperation Programme 2009-2011 is now open for funding applications.

    The deadline for applications will be 15 January 2009. Further information on the priorities of the Programme, criteria’s for applicants and the application form can be found on the NCM website or on the NordRegio website. NordRegio will be responsible for the management of the NCM Arctic Cooperation Programme and possible applications need be sent to NordRegio (nordregio at nordregio.se).
