    IICWG meets in Reykjavik

    International meeting of International Ice Charting Working Group (IICWG) is being held in Reykjavik 21st – 25th of October 2013.

    The conference is open for public. Icelandic participants are to include representatives from University of Iceland, Department of Geology and Icelandic Meteorological Office.

    The IICWG has been meeting for 13 years, since 1999. During this time, the group has been successful at developing a collegial working relationship amongst the majority of the world´s ice informational services.

    Meetings of IICWG are being held annually. Participants are to include representatives of the national governmental and private ice services from the northern hemisphere.

    5th Polar Shipping Summit

    The Arctic Polar Shipping Summit will take place 26th -27th of February 2014 in London.

    The ACI’s 5th Polar Shipping Summit will help its participants to prepare their ship and crew for another successful year of polar navigation.

    The forum will enable its participants to meet Arctic experts from Canada, Russia, USA and Europe, who will share their views on the best solutions for the current operational challenges as well as the strategy and the recent design and technology innovations.

    The governmental officials attending will inform you of the policy and regulatory changes for the upcoming years and promote understanding for the government’s strategy for the Arctic development in polar circles.

    The Summit will focus on technological, operational, and logistical challenges encountered by ship owners in harsh Arctic conditions.

    It will address key developments in transport and regulation in the Arctic as well as; commercial, communication and safety issues. Particular emphasis will be put on evaluating potential opportunities in the region.

    This summit, through presentations, round table discussion and case studies will examine practical solutions to Arctic shipping issues and present the latest innovations of technology in this specialized area.

    Already 65 world leaders have confirmed their attendance to the COP15 in Copenhagen in two weeks. What is, however, still unclear is whether the heads of states of the world’s top three carbon polluters – USA, China and India – will attend.

    The Arctic countries are well represented in the climate change conference, since in addition of being hosted by Denmark, the conference will attract JIm Prentice, the Minister of the Environment and Michael Martin, Chief Negotiator and Ambassador for Cliamte Change from Canada and Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, Prime Minister and Svandís Svavarsdóttir, the Miniter of the Environment from Iceland. In addittion, Finland will send both the Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen and the President Tarja Halonen in association with Paula Lehtomaki, the Minister of the Environment and Jan Vapaavuori, the Minister for Housing and Nordic Cooperation.

    Sweden and Norway are yet to announce their delegation, but they are as well expected to send a high-profle delegation.
